Steeped in the vintage era of the Maharajas of Rajasthan, the Sikar Gharana Ensemble hails from the classical Indian Music tradition handed down through centuries of father-son training initiated by one of the forefathers of this family, Ustad Azeem Khan.  A court musician, he was appointed by Maharaja Kalyan Singh of Sikar, a city near Jaipur and this is how the tradition started. The family, then under the lead of his son, Ustad Gulab Khan,  eventually settled in Jodhpur during the early to mid nineteenth Century and the ‘Gharana’ or ‘House of Music’ was firmly established there.

Gulabji’s son and its most famous member in recent memory ,is the late Ustad Sultan Khan, master of the Sarangi.

A truly rare occurrence, audiences will see 12 members, in fact three generations of the same family, steeped in their classical musical tradition – the Sikar Gharana – playing the compositions of their forefathers (and mothers!) including a rare raga composed by Ustad Sultan Khan himself, Rasmohini.
