This prestigious event is held each year at the Mehrangarh Fort and honours the greatest of musicians and singers in today’s era. The award, initiated by Padma bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan in the name of his father Ustad Gulab Khan, is now in it’s sixth year having celebrated the achievements of stalwarts like Ustad Zakir Hussein and Pandit Hariprasad Charasia in the past.
The event will start with an opening performance by ‘Sikar Gharana Ensemble’ who will enthrall the audience with their group classical performance. The group, all descendants of Ustad Gulab Khan include Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan (sitar) Sabir Khan (son of Ustad Sultan Khan) and Dilshad Khan (grandson) on sarangi and grandsons Imran Khan and Irfan Khan on sitar. The ensemble will play and sing compositions from the Sikar Gharana, those created for the royal court of Sikar by their forfathers.
The award ceremony, marking Hariharan’s achievements as not only a classical and playback artist, but a jazz-fusion and importantly a ghazal maestro will be followed by his performance in the Zenana Deodi at the majestic Mehrangarh Fort.
